Frequently Asked Questions

What are Kevs Kaps?

Kevs Caps Cremation Ash Capsules are a unique way to leave a little of your loved one or your favorite 4-legged companion at a place of importance. They are a biodegradable gelatin capsule (vegan options available) that contain a small amount of your loved ones remains. They are as easy to bring along with you as a large vitamin. Every order contains 100 Kevs Kaps to share with family and friends.

How do they work?

The capsules are like any other “gel cap” in that they must be kept as dry as possible during storage and transport. Our containers contain a small desiccant pack to keep the humidity correct. For transport to final destination any small, water-resistant container will work just fine. As with the scattering of any loved ones remains, We cannot offer guidance for how you decide to leave them in their final place, but there are a few different options. Just note that the capsules are 100% biodegradable and are designed to quickly dissolve in the presence of water.

What is the process?

Once we receive your order, we will send you a collection kit. This kit contains everything you will need to collect some of the remains to send back to us. You can follow the included instructions in the kit for collection. Once we have the remains, they are assigned a unique ID so they can be tracked throughout our process. Once finished, we ship the final order out to you using USPS Priority Mail Express. Our shipping cost is only to get the collection kit and final product to you, It DOES NOT include shipping the ashes to us. NOTE: We will now be offering a different National Park twice a year as a location to deposit your loved one’s ashes. THIS IS A NO COST service. Please contact Jordan@Kevskaps.com for details.

Can I ship my own, without a kit?

While technically yes, we prefer you use our kit for several reasons. The ash collection “tins” are actually aluminum, and we recycle them when they are returned with our local municipality. We DO NOT reuse containers, don’t worry. Our containers have been selected to ensure we get the proper amount of ashes with minimal waste and for durability during shipping. That said we know some people will prefer to ship using their own method. Do so at your own risk. we are not responsible for lost remains. So, if you decide to self-package and ship please follow these guidelines from the USPS. USPS regulations We need no more than, but as close to 4 ounces of remains for 100 Kaps. If you have less than this amount, please contact us and we can try to work with you. If you provide a smaller amount, understand that the Kaps will not be completely full.

Do you do custom orders?

Yes! We absolutely do custom orders. From custom labels to full custom memorial service packs that are designed to share at a funeral, memorial, celebration of life, or any other type of service. We will work with you to get everything just right to honor your loved one in whatever way you see fit.

What do you do with leftover Excess ashes?

If you have used our provided kit, then there really isn’t any excess. However, in the rare occasion that there are (usually from self-provided containers from customers) the remains will be scattered in a local open space or National Park.
